Sunflower Seed Oil as an Extender for Diesel Fuel in Agricultural Tractors

The use of sunflower seeds as an extender for diesel fuels in agricultural tractors is considered. Production requirements to meet the demand are briefly reviewed. Physical and chemical properties of sunflower seed oil are discussed. Tractor engines using diesel fuel or sunflower seed oil were tested as well as engines using various blends of sunflower seed oil with gasoline, diesel fuel, power kerosene, and illuminating kerosene. Results were compared. Engine service life and injection equipment performance are discussed.
