Application of on-Line Computer Techniques to Measurement and Control in a Multiple-Jet Wind Tunnel

The control and measurement system for a boundary layer simulation wind tunnel was automated. A digital computer was used to control the positioning of a hot wire probe in the tunnel, to measure the mean velocity, and to adjust the velocity profile by setting the flow conditions at the upstream jet grid. The use of the system was demonstrated by measuring certain aspects of the tunnel characteristics, and by automating the power law velocity profile setup procedure.
