Computer-Controlled Traverse Gear for the Oxford Wind Engineering Research Group's 4 Metre X 2 Metre Wind Tunnel

A traverse gear to improve the speed with which probes can be moved about the working section of a low speed wind tunnel entirely under the control of the wind tunnel computer was designed. The gear was designed in modular form with each of the three linear traverses operating independently of the others, and forming a distinct electrical and mechanical subsystem. The traverses are described, and a guide to the use and maintenance of the system is given.
