A finite element discretization and a formulation of the flow equations in the meridional-tangential abscissae domain were implemented to overcome the intrinsic nonlinearity of the flow equations on nonaxial turbine geometries and to deal with periodic boundaries ahead and after the blade. This enables a coupling of two-dimensional calculations of meridional flow surfaces with calculations of blade-to-blade surfaces to provide a quasi three dimensional image of the flow in turbomachines. Geometries from axial to centrifugal can be analyzed without discontinuities. A trailing edge closure analysis technique is used to predict impeller discharge angle.
