Laminate Stiffnesses and Classical Laminate Theory

A method by which the stiffness properties of a combined laminate can be calculated directly from the known stiffnesses of two individually symmetric laminates making up this combined laminate was extended to the general case of stacking an unrestricted number of laminates of entirely general properties. It is shown that the stiffness matrices of the combined laminate can be expressed in terms of the stiffness matrices of the individual laminates. It is found that the classical laminate theory can be extended and put in more general terms. It is possible to select laminates with special properties, that are not otherwise apparent.
