Specific Need for Composite Structures in Aerospace Applications

摘要

The application of carbon fiber reinforced plastics to launcher and satellite structures, satellite antennas, and optical supports are reviewed. The advantages given by high strength, high modulus, and low thermal expansion coefficient are discussed. The applications to the Ariane program are described and the development of European technological ability in this field is examined.
