As the application of composites within the aerospace industry becomes more widespread, a book that presents methodology for structural analysis of the material, in a broad sense suitable for structural designers, is definitely needed. This book, aimed at graduate-level engineers, seeks to provide a series of preliminary models which can be used to evaluate alternative designs and give insight into structural behaviour and the influence of design variables. These models can be used to perform trade studies to determine the effect of different design variables on the strength, stiffness, weight or cost of composite structures. The analysis methods are used to obtain design guidelines and to explain traditional design rules used by the industry. The limitations and range of applicability of each method are also provided.
