摘要

The industrial application of structural optimization with the Structural Analysis and Redesign System (STARS) in aircraft construction is reviewed. Large and complicated components made of metal and composite materials can be weight-optimized with the methods used in STARS. Weight savings over conventional component designs are possible. Development costs can be reduced at shorter process times. Per iteration step the computing cost for optimization runs amount to one to three times the cost of stress analysis (depending on the optimization method employed).
