Local Meteorological Processes and Air Mass Origin during a Cloud Chemical Field Experiment on Areskutan, Sweden, in Summer 1986

During a cloud chemical experiment on a mountain, meteorological observations were done in order to study the local meteorological processes present during the experiment, and to identify air mass changes. A wide range of air masses passed the site during the experiment period, as indicated by trajectories and variations in measured chemical and physical parameters. An attempt to estimate the entrainment of surrounding air into the clouds does not give any useful results. This is also the case with estimates of the liquid water content in clouds from the observed visibility. The correlation between the observed visibility and the visibility derived from the aerosol light scattering coefficient is good, though. The meteorological observations are presented in diagrams together with a day-to-day description of the synoptic weather situations.
