The purpose of this report is to present a systematic approach to the derivation and analysis of numerical smoothing weights. The text goes into a detailed step-by-step analysis of the method used and an appendix illustrates some actual results.nIn almost all analyses of test data results, smoothing must be applied to numeri¬cal data. Almost all numerical analysts are aware of several different methods of smoothing. When the question is asked of what method is best, there is no direct, simple answer. Before attempting to answer this question, the data characteristics must be known.
