RESEARCH TECHNIQUE FOR STUDY OF THE OXIDATION CHARACTERISTICS OF CRANKCASE OIL IN THE C L R OIL TEST ENGINE (Revised Version: 1969)

This research technique is designed to provide a method for investigating and studying the oxidation and copper-lead bearing corrosion character¬istics of engine crankcase oils.nIn this technique, a crankcase lubricant is evaluated only in respect to stability of resistance to oxidation/copper-lead bearing corrosion, and the deposition of varnish and/or sludge on engine parts. Such deposition, as indicated by this technique, is presumed to result from oil decomposition, oxidation, or other changes that occur in the lubricant in service.
