Twenty-six triaxial compression creep tests were performed on argillaceous and clean salt from the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. The average water- and EDTA-insoluble content of the argillaceous salt was 1.5 and 0.75%, respectively. This small quantity of impurities corresponded to consistent, but small, increases in the deformation measured during the tests. Results of these tests are similar to those obtained previously with two exceptions. The first is that the stress dependence of the steady-state strain rate at 25 deg C is greater than reported previously. The second is that the temperature dependence of the transient strain limit appears to be greater than reported previously. (ERA citation 12:008665)
