Vasopressin Gene-Related Products in the Management of Breast Cancer

The goal of this project has been to improve the detection and treatment of breast cancer by characterizing vasopressin gene expression by this disease and determining the nature and role of products generated through this expression. We have demonstrated that the vasopressin gene is expressed by seemingly all breast cancers and all ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), and this information coupled with an absence of vasopressin gene-related products from fibrocystic disease potentially provides us with a new screening test for distinguishing both breast cancer and DCIS from atypical intraductal hyperplasia.
