Storytelling as an Instructional Method: Descriptions and Research Questions

摘要

This paper discusses the theoretical and empirical foundations of the use of storytelling in instruction. The definition of 'story' is provided, and four instructional methods related to storytelling are identified: case- based instruction, narrative-based instruction, scenario-based instruction, and problem-based instruction. The article describes each of the four instructional methods and provides an example of the method within an instructional setting; identifies research foundations and relevant theoretical literature; and proposes research questions and agendas for further study of the use of storytelling in instruction.
