Test results on the use of hot wire anemometers to measure the relative flow, inside and outside the vane passages of a centrifugal impeller are given. Provided that the flow sense does not fluctuate the results appear to be reliable to within 5% or so. The measured velocity pattern in this impeller is not in agreement with that suggested by the usual theories of the flow in centrifugal impellers. The present impeller which was designed for a fan does not conform to pump practice and better results may be obtained with an impeller with smaller vane angles.
