The Ocean Breeze and Dry Gulch Diffusion Programs Volume I

Field diffusion programs were conducted at Cape Canaveral, Florida and Vandenberg AFB, California during 1961 and 1962. These programs, nicknamed Ocean Breeze and Dry Gulch respectively, were undertaken to establish quantitative diffusion predictions for use as range safety tools at the missile test ranges. The programs culminated at each range with the installation of an automatic computer-controlled meteorological data acquisition and processing system now in continuous operation at the bases. These systems have been named Weather Information Network Display (WIND) systems.nVolume I describes the diffusion experiments that were conducted as well as summaries of the resulting experimental data. Volume II is devoted to analyses of the data to- develop diffusion prediction equations, description of the WIND systems, recommendations for operational use of the prediction equation and WIND systems, and preliminary climatological summaries for each missile test range.
