GOCI: A GENERAL-PURPOSE VEHICLE TO ASSIST SYSTEM COMMUNICATION

GOCI (General Operator-Computer Interaction) is a technique which can be used to facilitate intra-system communication. It represents a tree which defines a language for use among human subjects via the computer and from human subjects to the computer. It was first used in the implementation of Leviathan, a system simulating large social groups. Here, the subjects used keyboards and displays in composing their communications. GOCI made this possible and also monitored the subjects to permit each to operate at his own pace and to provide a real-time operation. This paper discusses the general design of GOCI, describes how it has been implemented on the Phil co 2000 for Leviathan, and discusses some other applications for GOCI.
