The report considers the theoretical aspects relative to the repetition of messages as a means of error detection and correction, where, on the average, less than fifty per cent of the digits received are in error, and reception reliability is obtained at the expense of a lover data rate. Two repetition schemes, fixed and sequential, are considered, and applicable formulae are derived. Comparison is made of such repetition schemes with more sophisticated techniques, e.g., those involving optimum coding.
