Processing of Engine Data for Development of Turbojet Engine Analyzer. Part I. Processing of J79-7 Accelerated Service and J79-7a Engine Durability Test Data

This report describes a method of determining the condition of jet engines through the measurement of performance sensitive parameters, and shows the results of applying the analysis techniques to data acquired during accelerated service tests of a J79-7 engine in an F104 airplane. The results of the evaluation are encouraging in that minor deteriorations not observed by either pilot or ground crew but discovered on schedule detailed inspection were properly indicate by the fault isolation techniques. More data on more engines is required to establish more clearly that the deteriorations taking place in service will be detected by thermodynamic measurements, and to define more surely the parameter limits that are indicative of deterioration requiring maintenance action.
