Selected Methods for Analyzing and Processing Radar Data

The report is concerned with three separate but related topics: ambiguity resolution, sampling error, and curve fitting. The application to radar data is emphasized. Problems in resolving velocity and acceleration ambiguities are discussed and a method using staggered pulse repetition rate is indicated. The error rate using this approach is shown to be favorable. Certain weighted sampling procedures appear to effect a reduction in error bound. Modifications of such procedures to higher order (derivative) sampling and to fixed length intervals are considered. Relationships between number of weights, reduction in error, and derivative order are discussed. The last topic relates polynomial curve fitting techniques in terms of polynomial degree and span of observation. It examines optimum least square techniques at a point and for average estimates across a data span. Such items as order of derivative estimate, random and systematic error are also examined. The material is more expository in nature than the previous two topics. (Author)
