摘要

Experimental studies were undertaken in a water tunnel with three dimensional appendages involving the effect of propeller blade thickness and appendage asymmetry in the induced transverse and axial appendage forces. The propellers were mounted downstream of the appendage and the distance between the appendage and propeller varied. The propellers were tested both as three bladed units and as single bladed units. Both appendage asymmetry and propeller blade thickness have notable effects on the induced appendage forces. It appears as if the use of a single bladed propeller offers a promising technique for predicting multi-bladed performance in terms of induced appendage forces. (Author)
