DEVELOPMENT OF AN IMPROVED PROCESS FOR THE CATALYTIC OXIDATION OF ATMOSPHERIC CONTAMINANTS IN SUBMARINES

Studies in the development of an improved catalytic oxidation process reveal that pol¬luted air causes other problems along with the corrosion which has been experienced in sub¬marines.nCO/H2 Burner troubles are explained by data showing inhibition of Hopcalite due to adsorption of C02 and organic halides and showing catalyst granules turning to dust because of thermal fracture.nMinimization of air pollutants is neces¬sary, and preprocessing to remove certain materials before the catalytic oxidation is a necessary part of air purification.
