摘要

This final technical report deals with the synthesis and characterization of a variety of materials specifically cubic boronphosphide,cubic boron nitride,diamond,sapphire,and ruby,europium sulfide and the chalcogenides of cadmium. Characterization has been in terms of spectra,electrical conductivity,thermal neutron detection,morphology and thermal stability. A mathematical and thermodynamic model of the flame fusion crystal growth process has been developed. Polymorphism has been fundamentally reviewed,yielding a relationship which gives transition pressures in terms of traditional thermodynamic quantities. Further fundamental and spectral studies deal with solid solution hardening,compressibility and cold neutron spectra of solids.
