摘要

Studies of the expression of minor-lymphocyte-stimulating (Mls)-defined lymphocyte-activating determinants (LADs) on B lymphocytes of immunologically normal mice (CBA/J) support the view that there is heterogeneity among the Ig-bearing cells that reside in the spleens of adult mice. Adult splenic B lymphocytes that have a relatively high density of surface Ig, as do a large percentage of the Ig-bearing cells found in the spleens of neonatal, normal, and adult immune-defective CBA/N mice, do not express the Mls-coded LADs. However, adult splenic cells of normal mice that have low-to-intermediate densities of surface Ig (a population representing a small fraction of neonatal spleen cells) are able to induce stimulation in Mls-coded mixed lymphocyte reactions (MLRs). Thus, immunologically normal strains of adult mice have at least two populations of splenic B lymphocytes that can be distinguished by the density of Ig on their surfaces and by their ability to functionally express the Mls-coded LABs. Further analysis of the surface markers of normal and immune-defective mice will most likely define a larger degree of heterogeneity among B-lymphocyte populations. (Author)
