摘要

The objective of this research is to develop a method for achieving a better understanding of the mechanism of coal hydrogenation. A deuterium tracer technique is being developed to achieve that objective.nThe second pair of hydrogenation experiments with protium and deuterium has been completed and the products from each test have been solvent-fractionated. The good agreement with respect to yields between the two sets of solvent-fractionation data indicates good reproducibility for these two experiments.nElemental analysis and vapor pressure osmometry have been used to characterize the coal hydrogenation products. The vapor pressure osmometry measurements have some interesting implications in light of recent coal chemistry research.
