Macarthur Coal releases Quarterly Report for period ending 31 March 2008

Shipments for the March quarter were below expectations despite being well ahead of the total for the previous corresponding period. Shipments, including purchased coal, reached 0.97Mt for the period; about 49 percent ahead of the March quarter in 2007. Macarthur Coal made a force majeure declaration on coal sales to low volatile PCI coal (LV PCI) customers in late January following the first of two rainfall events. The second rainfall event in February disrupted and delayed the recovery process leading to the maintenance of this declaration. These events caused widespread flooding of the opencuts at both Coppabella and Moorvale. At this point it is difficult to estimate when the force majeure declaration will be lifted.
