Various equations and fit procedures were tested to determine an adequate procedure for predicting variations in the earth's rotational orientation and pole position over time periods of 5 to 20 days for application to the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS). It was shown that a 10-parameter fit to data observed over a one-year period would give 0.002 to 0.007 sec of time accuracy in the prediction of the earth's rotational orientation. A five-parameter fit to the X component of pole position and a seven-parameter fit to the Y component gave prediction accuracies of 0.005 to 0.012 sec of arc. (Author)
