摘要

The Group VI elements, selenium and tellurium, are found to react with fluorine emitting a broad spectral chemiluminescence. The chemiluminescence is characteristic of that emitted by a diatomic molecule. The proposed emitting species are SeF and TeF. Selenium reacts with fluorine with a weak chemiluminescence in the visible between 3800 A and 8900 A. Identical spectra are obtained regardless of whether the source of selenium is the elemental vapor or hydrogen selenide. In the hydrogen selenide/fluoride reaction, vibrationally excited HF is produced with the identified bands: (4,0), (5,1), (6,2), and (3,0) super-imposed on the SeF chemiluminescence.
