This analysis of the potential health and environmental impacts of transporting M55 rockets filled with nerve agent GB or VX considers normal operations (with no nerve-agent release) and postulated accidents during transport (a minor agent spill ( the nerve-agent contents of a single rocket) and a worst-case accident involving the release of a large, specified quantity of nerve agent to the biosphere). The impacts of these scenarios are assessed for truck, train, and air transport for each origin-destination pair. The analysis assumes that an accident can occur anywhere along a route. It calculates downwind hazard distances, the vapor-depletion version of the D2B atmospheric dispersion code for each accident scenario under conservative most likely and worst-case meteorological conditions. This code predicts distances to 50% lethality, 1% lethality, and no deaths.
