VHF-FM (Very High Frequency-Freuency Modulation) Digital Selective Calling System Mathematical Model Using Grade Of Service Criteria

This thesis presents a mathematical model of a maritime VHF-FM Digital Selective Calling (DSC) System using grade of service as a criterion to determine if a single DSC channel can accommodate both distress and commercial calling. The model calculates the probability of a call being delayed, the average delay of a call, the probability of a call being answered within a certain time frame, and the throughput for the random access calling systems of ALOHA, Slotted ALOHA, Slotted ALOHA with Capture.
