Implementation of the AFIT/ENG Faculty and Student Database Management System

摘要

This study took the works of the previous AFIT/ENG Student and Faculty Database System thesis efforts and design and implemented the application software for the project. The basic purpose of the thesis was to provide a sound design for the application programs that would interface with the TOTAL Database Management System and the Forms Management System. The entire system was to be designed with the notion that it would be modified and enhanced. A series of standard interface routines were created to act as a layer between the TOTAL DBMS. The resulting routines were abstracted and used as an extension to the Pascal programming language. The education plan portion of the database was used as a prototype to develop the requirements of the human-computer interface. The program was then redesigned and implemented using the standard routines and the specifications developed from the prototype. A menu driven system was used to implement the design utilizing the Forms Management System as the screen interface. The education plan program is an example of the structured approach used in interpreting the design of the database system. The program contains examples of scrolled screens, database calls, linked list routines, and data abstraction. Additional programs were written to demonstrate the capabilitiees interfacing with the GKS graphics package, transmition of data to the registrars office, and to show the continuity of the design.
