摘要

The scattering of surface waves by nonuniform dielectric waves is systematically investigated, with particular attention directed toward the development of criteria for the design of components and devices for millimeter-wave and integrated-optical applications. The methods of staircase approximation and generalized transmission-line equation are employed for both analytic and numerical analyses. Extensive numerical results are obtained to establish criteria for the design of nonuniform dielectric waveguides. Many useful components and devices, such as: S-curve transition, bends, humps, cracks, waveguide, coupler and directional couplers are investigated in detail.
