The Automated Integrated Surveying Instrument (AISI) is a single total station concept instrument combining the usual properties of theodolites and electronic distance measuring equipment. Traditionally the Army's main utilization of surveying equipment has been for military applications such as field artillery operations, military construction, and topographical purposes. With the advent of total station units the Army plans to conduct a series of field and laboratory tests to determine the feasibility and suitability of the new total station concept with respect to the Army's traditional role.
