摘要

Spectral-analysis-of-surface-waves (SASW) is a method of nondestructive testing for material characterization of pavement systems. SASW is based on the theory of stress waves propagating in elastic media with the key elements being the generation and measurement of Rayleigh waves. From these measurements, shear wave velocity and modulus profiles can be obtained for multilayered elastic systems. SASW tests were conducted on six airfield pavement sites. Young's modulus profiles from SASW were compared with moduli backcalculated using falling weight deflectometer test results and with laboratory values. Results indicate that SASW is a viable method for in situ characterization of pavement materials. Automation of testing and analyses techniques is needed for routine pavement evaluations. Research is needed to evaluate low strain effects on the moduli for surface, base, and subgrade materials and the effect o reflected waves on SASW measurements.
