摘要

Piezoelectricity is an electromechanical phenomenon which couples elastic andelectric fields. In general, a piezoelectric material responds to mechanical forces/pressures and generates an electric charge/voltage. This phenomenon is called the direct piezoelectric effect. Conversely, an electric charge/field applied to the material induces mechanical stress or strain and this phenomenon is called the converse piezoelectric effect. In active piezoelectric structures, the direct effect is used for distributed structural identification and the converse effect for the active distributed vibration control of continua. In this chapter, two subject topics are presented. The first topic is a new theoretical development on active piezoelectric shell continua and the second topic is on distributed identification and vibration control of elastic shell continua using distributed piezoelectric sensor/actuator layers. Applications of the theories to other continua are demonstrated.... Smart structures, Piezoelectricity, Distributed sensor/actuator.
