摘要

The fiber-reinforced epoxy composites are often subject to water absorption whichusually results in mechanical losses. A sensitive water uptake monitoring method was developed in this paper by using the intrinsic luminescence polarity sensor. It was found that the intensity of the intrinsic fluorescence of aromatic diamine curing agent was very sensitive to the water uptake in DGEBA/DDS epoxies. The sensitivity of the intrinsic sensor to the water absorption in epoxy matrix was determined by two factors: the polarity of the matrix and the extent of cure. With the decrease in the polarity of matrix, the sensors showed increased sensitivity to the absorbed water. However, the increase in the extent of cure decreased the water-sensitivity.
