Materials with Fluid-Saturated Cracks and Cavities: Fluid Pressure Polarizationand Effective Elastic Response

We consider a linear elastic solid with cavities containing non-viscouscompressible fluid. The externally applied stress sigma produces changes in fluid pressures in cavities that depend on the cavity orientations with respect to sigma. This pressure polarization may produce abnormally high fluid pressures in some of the cavities. It also affects the effective elastic response of the material.
