Celanese Producing Vinyl Acetate With Symyx-Discovered Catalyst

Santa Clara-Symyx Technologies last week announced that Celanese has started commercial production of vinyl acetate using a catalyst discovered by Symyx working under a research collaboration with Celanese(PCN,3 Feb 03,p 2).The catalyst,which is intended to reduce the manufacturing cost of vinyl acetate,is initially being used in one of Cela-nese's plants,but is expected to be deployed to additional plants depending on commercial results.
