Workers at Transpetro, the shipping subsidiary of Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras, are due to approve plans for an indefinite, nationwide strike scheduled to start on 4 September, Brazil’s federal oil workers union FUP says. The action is in response to Petrobras’ plans to raise around $58bn through divestments and corporate restructuring through to 2018, a plan union leaders say will result in the loss of thousands of jobs.
