Foreign oil firms operating in northern Iraq are eager to see a full resolution of the dispute between Baghdad and Erbil. A rapprochement would ease the situation for BP, which has kept a token presence at the 250,000 b/d Kirkuk field under an 18-month technical assistance agreement signed with Baghdad last year. BP and the oil ministry hoped this would lead to a long-term service development contract under which the major would help to boost the ageing field’s output (WPA, 13 September 2013, p8).
