Maximum OSHA Penalties Nearly Double

OSHA has raised by 78 percent the maximum penalties it can impose for violations of its rules. The changes went into effect on August 1. This is a "catch-up" measure designed to address a quarter century of inflation. The U.S. Department of Labor also announced that it was increasing penalties for violations of the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act and penalties for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act's minimum wage and overtime provisions.
