Fennec foxes are incredibly elusive in the wild, but since the uprisings of the Arab Spring there has been a surge in these animals being kept as pets - often as a way to lure tourist dollars says. The long, pointed ears that make the fennec foxsuch a distinctive species are an essential adaptation to life in the Sahara. Not only do they dissipate body heat but they also facilitate highly developed hearing essential for locating prey, such as insects or small mammals, under the sands of the desert. But that spectacularly sharpened sense presents a distinct challenge to wildlife photographers.
