I am the Technology Group Manager of one of the seven technology groups of TWI, namely the Metallurgy, Corrosion and Surfacing Group. This group currently consists of 22 graduate staff. We run projects for TWI member companies, including a large number of failure and root cause investigations but also material and weld characterization studies. We identify microstructures, perform chemical analysis studies, quantify the weldability of materials and evaluate new processes or new applications for welded components. A lot of our work involves corrosion testing, especially using methods developed in-house, to provide solutions for our member companies and to answer their questions.
