The US steel industry has been on tenterhooks during the pasttwo months as foreign suppliers, buoyed by theirfast depreciating currencies, engaged in what iseuphemised as dumping: the supply of products andcommodities at prices which are below the actualcost of production, thanks to a maze of visible andinvisible subsidies given by their governments.
