The effect of heavy metals (Copper and Lead), UV-B radiation, industrial waste (flyash), pesticide (monocrotophos) and hydrocarbon (diesel oil) on the growth and biochemicals of Caulerpa scalpelliformis cultured in the laboratory was assessed. MaximumDGR was observed at SOOmgL~(-1) concentration of copper, 1.0 % of monocrotophos and 20.0% of diesel oil. At 500mgL~(-1) concentration of copper, maximum content of carbohydrate was observed. Maximum amount of chlorophyll a, b, carotenoids and carbohydrate were recorded at lOOmgL~(-1) of Lead. Exposure to UV-B for 60 minutes induced maximum content of all the biochemicals tested except lipid. The industrial waste (fly ash) triggered maximum amount of chlorophyll a. b. and carotenoids at 2.5% and carbohydrate and protein at 0.25 and 0.50% concentration respectively. The pesticide monocrotophos induced maximum amount of chlorophyll a, at 1.0% and chlorophyll b and carotenoids at 0.1% and protein at 0.5%.
