With some 3,000 members employed within the Armed Forces, SOE has extensive experience supporting the engineering personnel of the Royal Navy, Army/REME and RAF. Operations Engineer speaks to IRTE Council member Amanda Foster to find out how the SOE helps develop careers both during and after an engineer's military service. Highlighting SOE's commitment to its members, an Armed Forces focus group was formed last year with key members of the military. The group pinpoints and acts upon the specific challenges military engineering entails, ensuring SOE can meet the needs of engineers in the armed forces, as well as those who have left. SOE Chief Executive Nick Jones said: "The group works together to decide how young and experienced engineering professionals can make the most out of their training to benefit their entire career. This will assist members whilst they are in the military and help them transfer their skills into recognised civilian qualifications should they leave."
