One of the traditional methods for coating corrosion resistance level evaluation is using Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). This paper presents a new sensor system based on EIS for evaluating coating corrosion resistance level. The sensor system consists of one base station and several sensor nodes. Wireless communication and simple sensor network is realized between the sensor nodes and the base station. The sensor node is smaller than a business card in size. Evaluation time is less than 10 seconds in the operation frequency range between 20-90 kHz. Three coated panels were used for testing. Testing results are presented for both typical EIS instruments and this new coating corrosion resistance level evaluation technique. Good correlations indicate this new sensing technique is valid for EIS based coating corrosion resistance evaluation. The sensor system is powered by batteries with low power consumption (300 mW). It is portable and easy to realize real time, in field coating corrosion resistance level evaluation.
