Our deepwater fisheries were valued at around 645 million dollar last year with the trawl squid fishery playing a major part. Around 70,000 tonnes was exported by the year ending May 2006 earning approximately 148 million dollar (FOB), roughly 20 million dollar less than in 2005 due to the Kiwi dollar and a big catch in Argentina and the Falklands.
