Industry commentator and occasional Seafood New Zealand contributor Richard Regan puts his own spin on some of the more demanding aspects of the inshore fishing situation and highlights a possible way forward for inshore commercial fishers committed to their profession. The recent Ministerial decisions on Marine Mammal Sanctuaries and fishing exclusions to protect Hectors and Maui's dolphins (outlined in Seafood New Zealand's July issue) represent a constructive loss of fishing opportunity for largenumbers of fishermen (commercial and amateur) and diminished asset value for many quota share owners.
