The International Council for the Exploration of the Seas' (ICES) recommendation that there should be a significant cut in the Barents Sea cod quota next year came as a bit of a shock to many in the Norwegian fishing industry.Adnun Marak, managing director at Fiskebat, the organization representing the more than 10,000 boats in the Norwegian fishing fleet, said that while a cut was generally anticipated among industry insiders, it wasn't expected to be nearly as large as the 100,000 metric tons it turned out to be.
